Guided by expert trackers, you will journey through the lush, primal jungle to find a habituated gorilla family. Day 1: Journey to the Mists of Bwindi
Your adventure begins as we pick you up from your hotel in Kampala or Entebbe. We'll embark on a scenic drive southwest, a journey that showcases the changing landscapes of Uganda, from bustling towns to serene countryside.
A key stop will be at the Ugandan Equator, where you can stand with one foot in each hemisphere—a classic photo opportunity. After a delicious lunch en route, we continue through the "Switzerland of Africa," a region known for its terraced hills and breathtaking vistas. We will arrive at your comfortable lodge, nestled on the edge of the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, in the late afternoon. The evening is yours to relax, acclimatize to the cool mountain air, and anticipate the incredible day ahead.
Day 2: The Gorilla Encounter
This is the day you've been waiting for. After an early, hearty breakfast, we will proceed to the park headquarters for a briefing from the Uganda Wildlife Authority rangers. You will be assigned to a gorilla family group and learn about the rules of the trek—the "gorilla etiquette."
With your expert guide leading the way, you will enter the dense jungle. The trek can be challenging, lasting anywhere from 2 to 6 hours, depending on the location of the gorillas. As you navigate the rich ecosystem, your guide will point out other wildlife, birds, and unique plant life. The anticipation builds with every step until, suddenly, you hear them.
The moment you first see the gorillas is truly magical. You will have exactly one hour to quietly observe them as they go about their daily lives—feeding, grooming, playing, and interacting. This intimate, respectful encounter is a profoundly moving experience. Afterwards, you will trek back to the park headquarters, filled with incredible memories, to receive your trekking certificate. The rest of the afternoon is for relaxing at the lodge and reflecting on your amazing encounter.
Day 3: Return to Kampala/Entebbe
After a final breakfast overlooking the forest, we will begin our journey back to Kampala or Entebbe. We will travel through the beautiful countryside once more, carrying with us the unforgettable memories of the "Gentle Giants of Bwindi." We will stop for lunch along the way and will drop you off at your hotel or at Entebbe International Airport for your onward flight.
